In a startling development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has leveled accusations against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging a deliberate consumption of mangoes, sweets, and sugar with tea in an apparent attempt to influence his blood sugar levels. The accusation came to light during a hearing at a Delhi court where Kejriwal had moved an application seeking continuous monitoring of his blood sugar levels and permission to consult his doctor.
Kejriwal’s application highlighted the fluctuations in his blood sugar levels, necessitating regular consultations with his doctor, preferably through video conferencing. However, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Zoheb Hossain opposed the plea, arguing that Kejriwal’s consumption pattern was suspect, suggesting a strategic move to bolster his case for bail.
Advocate Vivek Jain, representing Kejriwal, rebuffed the ED’s claims, accusing them of sensationalism for media attention. Jain further informed the court of Kejriwal’s decision to withdraw the application, intending to submit a revised one.
The court, reacting to these developments, requested a medical report from jail authorities detailing Kejriwal’s diet. The matter was adjourned for further proceedings scheduled for the following day. Kejriwal remains in judicial custody at Tihar jail following his arrest by the ED in connection to a money laundering case associated with the now-defunct excise policy. The trial court recently extended his custody until April 23, 2024.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court against a Delhi High Court order dismissing his plea challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the ED. Concurrently, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court, urging the Director General of Prisons to facilitate Kejriwal’s governance of Delhi by permitting him to conduct meetings with assembly members and cabinet ministers via video conferencing.
The PIL also seeks intervention from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to curb alleged misleading and sensational media coverage regarding the imposition of President’s rule in Delhi, highlighting the broader legal and political implications surrounding Kejriwal’s case.
