Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during a poll rally in Hailakandi district’s Katlicherra under the Karimganj parliamentary constituency. Asserting that the Congress party is “useless,” CM HImanta declared it would remain unable to secure victory in any elections for the next 50 years.
Drawing from his 20 years’ stint within the Congress, the Assam CM slammed the party, alleging it has created a culture of “dalali or brokerage”. He emphasised his support for BJP candidate Kripanath Mallah for the Karimganj parliamentary seat, highlighting the disparities between Mallah and his Congress counterpart Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury.
CM Himanta highlighted Choudhury’s professional background as an advocate residing in Guwahati, suggesting a disconnect between the candidate and the constituency’s residents. He warned against electing Choudhury, suggesting that his victory would entail additional financial burdens for constituents, as Choudhury would allegedly seek fees for his services.
In contrast, the CM asserted that under BJP governance, the practice of “dalali” has been halted in Assam, indicating a departure from what he perceives as corrupt practices associated with the Congress party.
Reiterating the five guarantees of the Modi and Himanta governments, the CM said they will give 50,000 more jobs by 2024 in addition to the 1 lakh already given. He said the geo tagging of PMAY in Assam will be done by the women members of self-help groups. Twenty lakh such houses of 3 crore will be given in the State throughout. A new scheme, Atmanirbhar Asom, will be launched immediately after the election, and 1.5 lakh youths have already applied online, and Rs 2 lakh will be given to them for starting small industries, etc.
The beneficiary will have to return only Rs 1 lakh within five years, he added further saying all the owners of ration cards will get the Orunodoi benefit. Rs 10,000 will be given to all the applicants for Lakhpati Baideos as the first instalment. Informing this, CM Himanta said college and university students will also get stepwise monetary benefits.
Addressing the people in mixed languages of Assamese, Bengali and Hindi, CM Himanta accused the Congress of playing divisive politics as they always mention during their election campaign rallies that BJP won’t help any people from Muslim communities. The CM brought to notice that while providing government welfare schemes and building roads, BJP never denies any benefit to and never stops the Muslim community from using the facilities. He asked the public then why Congress always term BJP as communal. The CM asserted BJP is never communal. On the contrary, Congress has the divisive attitude.
