Bharat has initiated a significant development project in Nepal by laying the foundation stone for two school buildings in the Darchula district. The ceremony, held on Friday, marked the beginning of the construction of the Shree Himalaya Secondary School and Shree Janabikash Secondary School buildings.
Prashant Kumar Sona, Second Secretary at the Bharatiya Embassy in Kathmandu, led the ceremony, accompanied by local officials.
Financial Assistance and Project Details
The construction of the school buildings is being funded by the Bharatiya government as part of the Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation initiative. The Shree Himalaya Secondary School building, with a project cost of NRs. 28.20 million, and the Shree Janabikash Secondary School building, costing NRs. 33.70 million, are aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure in the region.
High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP)
These projects fall under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) agreement between the governments of Bharat and Nepal.
The HICDP aims to address community development needs by focusing on essential sectors such as education. Both schools are expected to significantly contribute to providing better educational facilities and fostering an improved learning environment.
Development Partnership Between Bharat and Nepal
The collaboration between Bharat and Nepal in executing these projects exemplifies the strong development partnership between the two nations.
Since 2003, the Bharatiya government has undertaken over 551 HICDPs in Nepal, completing 489 projects. In Sudurpashchim Province alone, including Darchula, 40 projects have been implemented across various sectors.

The new school buildings are anticipated to benefit students of Shree Himalaya Secondary School and Shree Janabikash Secondary School by providing enhanced educational facilities. The improved infrastructure is poised to contribute to the overall development of education in the Darchula district.
Continued Support and Gift Initiatives
Bharatiya government’s continued support in uplifting Nepal’s priority sectors, particularly education, has been acknowledged by local authorities. Additionally, Bharat has gifted 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions in Nepal on significant national occasions. Sudurpashchim Province has received 60 ambulances and 20 school buses, including those provided to Darchula District.
