The Biden administration is thinking about giving Israel more than $1 billion in weapons, according to a report. This comes as there’s a lot of talk about how American-made weapons are being used in the conflict between Israel and Gaza.
The proposed deal would be one of the biggest transfers of weapons to Israel since they went into Gaza after a terror attack from Hamas. The weapons they’re thinking about sending include tank shells, mortars, and military vehicles.
These new weapons would be in addition to a military aid deal that’s currently being discussed in Congress. This means Israel could get even more support from the United States.
Even though there are worries about how these weapons might affect Palestinian civilians, the Biden administration seems to be standing by Israel. They recently approved billions of dollars’ worth of bombs and fighter jets to be sent to Israel, according to The Washington Post.
The US State Department has been asked about why they’re approving such big weapons transfers while tensions are high in Gaza. A spokesperson said that a lot of these requests for weapons were already approved by Congress a while ago. They also mentioned that the US gives Israel $3 billion every year to help with security.
The spokesperson also talked about the threats Israel faces from groups like Hezbollah. They said the US will keep supporting Israel so they can defend themselves against these enemies. So, it seems like the Biden administration is sticking with their support for Israel, even as the situation in Gaza stays tense.
