The New Delhi police announced the dismantling of a gang suspected of producing fake airbags for top car models. Three individuals were apprehended during a raid conducted by the special staff in Central Delhi.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Harsha Vardhan, the operation led the authorities to two workshops located near Mata Sundari Road, where the accused were allegedly engaged in the manufacturing process. Among those arrested were Faizan (26), Mohd. Faraz, and Furkan, both aged 35 years.
During the raid, a substantial quantity of counterfeit airbags, emulating those of renowned car brands, was seized. The inventory included counterfeit airbags purportedly designed for MG, BMW, Citroen, Nissan, Renault, Volkswagen, Mahindra, Toyota, Tata, Honda, Skoda, and Hyundai vehicles.
The authorities uncovered 12 airbags meant for MG, 13 for BMW, 22 for Citroen, 23 for Nissan, 27 for Renault, 17 for Volkswagen, 20 for Mahindra, 14 for Toyota, 32 for Tata, 39 for Honda, 57 for Skoda, and 66 for Hyundai cars in one of the workshops.
Moreover, 86 airbags resembling those for Suzuki, 12 for KIA, eight for Ford, and three for Volvo vehicles were among the confiscated items. Additionally, 15 airbags devoid of any branding logo and 109 raw materials used in the manufacturing process were seized from the other workshop.
The police emphasized that the production and distribution of counterfeit airbags pose a significant risk to public safety, as these fake products may fail to deploy properly during accidents, potentially leading to severe injuries or fatalities. As a result, authorities are taking stringent measures to combat such illegal operations.
A case has been registered against the arrested individuals, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the extent of the counterfeit operation and identify any potential collaborators or distributors.
The police urged car owners to remain vigilant and ensure the authenticity of spare parts and accessories to safeguard themselves from such fraudulent practices.
The successful crackdown on the counterfeit car airbag manufacturing gang reflects the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle organized crime and protect consumers from substandard and potentially dangerous products.
