Undeterred by the rain, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a spirited roadshow in Silchar, the bustling hub of Assam’s Barak Valley, bordering Bangladesh. The event, held in support of BJP candidate Parimal Suklabaidya, drew a sea of enthusiastic supporters.
Joined by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shah stood atop an adorned vehicle embellished with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image.
The 2-kilometer procession commenced at the District Sports Association point, covering Central Road, Premtala, Ambikapatty, and Hospital Road, before reaching its culmination at Radhamadhav Road.
Shah’s presence electrified the atmosphere as he gracefully showered flower petals upon the crowd lining both sides of the route, undeterred by the rain, reflecting the unwavering spirit and dedication of the people towards the BJP’s vision.
Taking to social media, Amit Shah wrote on a post, “In the last 10 years, the Modi Government has transformed the Barak Valley by unleashing waves of development. People want Silchar to continue to develop along with the entire nation. Today’s vibrant roadshow is a pulsating expression of the Silchar people’s unwavering affection for PM Modi.”
Throughout the procession, cultural troupes featuring Dhamail, Bihu, and Manipuri dancers showcased their talents along the route. Supporters enthusiastically waved BJP flags and chanted slogans such as ‘Modi-Shah Zindabad’, ‘BJP Zindabad’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The 50-minute roadshow brought traffic to a standstill, with thoroughfares leading into the town temporarily blocked to accommodate the event.
The Silchar seat has been reserved as a Scheduled Caste or SC constituency after a delimitation exercise last year.
Suklabaidya is Assam’s Excise, Transport and Fisheries minister and is locked in a triangular contest with Congress nominee Surya Kanta Sarkar and TMC’s Radheyshyam Biswas.
Previously, on April 9, he orchestrated a massive rally in Lakhimpur and led a roadshow in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh, showcasing strong political outreach.
The upcoming second phase of the 2024 general elections, scheduled for April 26, covers 89 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 States, including Assam. In Assam’s second phase, five key constituencies – Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nowgong, and Kaliabor – are slated for polling, indicating the crucial nature of Shah’s rally in Silchar as part of the BJP’s election strategy.
