President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the prestigious Padma Shri upon Chittaranjan Debbarma, recognising his remarkable contributions to spiritualism in Tripura. The ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marked a momentous occasion on April 22.
Born on January 22, 1962, in Barakathal, Sidhai Mohanpur, Debbarma’s spiritual journey began early, deeply influenced by devotion to Shiv Parvati and Radha Krishna. Transitioning from a career as a Panchayat Secretary, his encounter with the teachings of Sri Sri Santikali Maharaj propelled him towards sanyas, under the guidance of his revered Guru, dedicating himself to Maa Tripurasundari.
Following his Guru’s demise at the hands of the NLFT terrorist organisation, Debbarma assumed leadership of the Sri Sri Santikali Ashram, expanding its mission to uplift the indigenous poor. Despite facing threats, he established hostels across Tripura, providing shelter and education to over 700 underprivileged children.
Currently serving as the Peethadhish of Shantikali Peeth and Ashram in Gomati district, Debbarma’s accolades include the Sant Eshwar Award, Krishna Chandra Gandhi Award, Karmayogi Award, and Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Smriti Award.
His commitment to education led to the founding of Sri Sri Santikali English Medium School in 2019, promoting holistic and value-based learning. With 24 ashrams, an old-age home, and mentorship programs, his influence extends across Tripura, encouraging spiritual and moral resurgence, particularly among indigenous communities.
Debbarma’s legacy embodies the essence of Sanatan Dharma, highlighting cultural heritage and principles to perpetuate Sanatanatwa among the people, transcending boundaries and inspiring a growing number of followers towards spiritual awakening.
