Following similar actions in Manipur, the Election Commission of India-ECI has mandated repolling at eight polling stations across Arunachal Pradesh. This decision comes in response to clashes that marred the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19. Notably, the State’s Assembly elections also occurred on the same day.

Reports of violence and damage to Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs emerged during the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, according to an official statement.

In a directive issued on Sunday, the Commission declared the polling at the eight affected stations null and void, scheduling fresh polling for April 24 from 6 am to 2 pm, as per Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Liken Koyu.

The designated polling stations for the repoll include Sario in the Bameng assembly constituency (East Kameng district), Longte Loth under Nyapin assembly seat (Kurung Kumey district), Dingser, Bogiya Siyum, Jimbari, and Lengi under Nacho constituency (Upper Subansiri district).

Additionally, repolling has been ordered at Bogne and Molom polling booths under the Rumgong assembly constituency (Siang district).

On April 19, an estimated 76.44 per cent of the total 8,92,694 voters cast their votes to elect 50 MLAs for the 60-member assembly in Arunachal Pradesh.
