At least 4 people were killed, while over 1 lakh people were evacuated from their homes as heavy rains wreaked havoc in southern China over the weekend. The Pearl River Delta, densely populated and prone to flooding, experienced continuous heavy rainfall since April 16, leading to widespread inundation. Authorities have raised concerns over a “once-a-century flood” as the Bei River, part of the Pearl River Delta system, is expected to surge well above warning levels.
