Bharat achieved a significant milestone on Tuesday as it successfully test-fired a new version of a medium-range ballistic missile, as reported by the Press Trust of India (PTI). The test, conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command, demonstrated the operational capabilities of the missile equipped with advanced technologies.

The Ministry of Defence stated, “A successful launch of the new variant of a medium-range ballistic missile was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command on April 23.”

This user launch not only affirmed the effectiveness of the Strategic Forces Command but also validated the incorporation of new technologies into the missile system. Notably, the missile belongs to a different family of weapons systems and is distinct from the renowned ‘Agni’ series.

Bharat Delivers Fourth Battery of BrahMos Missiles to Philippines Amidst Tensions

Bharat’s defense prowess and regional cooperation, the nation delivered the fourth ‘battery’ of land-based BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines. Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the South China Sea due to Chinese assertions, this delivery bears strategic significance.

The consignment, transported via an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster, arrived in Manila, marking a tangible step in bolstering the Philippines’ defense capabilities.

Each battery comprises four launchers housing three BrahMos missiles with a range of 290 kilometers. Mounted on mobile platforms, these launchers improve survivability and serve as a potent conventional deterrent.

Noting, the BrahMos missile’s supersonic velocity renders it exceedingly challenging to intercept for land or ship-based Ballistic Missile Defence (BMDs) systems, thereby augmenting the defensive capabilities of the receiving nation.

Bharat’s Defense Exports Surge, Touch ₹21083 Crores in 2023-2024

Bharat’s defense exports witnessed a remarkable surge, reaching ₹21083 crores in the fiscal year 2023-2024, marking a substantial 32.5% year-on-year growth. The delivery of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines forms a part of Bharat’s broader strategy to expand its defense exports and strengthen partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.

This surge underscores Bharat’s growing stature as a key player in the global defense arena, with its indigenous defense capabilities gaining recognition worldwide.

Bharat Ranks Fourth in Global Military Spending

Report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) says, Bharat emerged as the fourth-largest military spender globally in the preceding year. With an expenditure of $83.6 billion, Bharat’s defense spending registered a 4.2% increase compared to the previous year.

This reaffirms Bharat’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities in line with evolving security challenges, ranking itself as a major contributor to global peace and stability.
