In a recent election meeting, PV Anwar, an independent MLA supported by Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, stirred controversy by suggesting that the DNA of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should be examined.
Anwar, addressing the gathering, criticized Gandhi for his remarks against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and questioned his lineage from the Nehru family. “My opinion is that Rahul Gandhi’s DNA should be examined. There is no dispute in it”, he said.
Meanwhile, Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission condemning the remarks and urged action against the MLA. KPCC acting president M M Hassan demanded police intervention and emphasized the need for urgent action.
However, Chief Minister Vijayan defended Anwar’s right to criticize Gandhi, stating that the Congress leader was not immune to scrutiny. He assured that Gandhi’s remarks would be addressed appropriately.
Senior Congress leader K C Venugopal accused the CPI (M) of orchestrating the derogatory remarks against Gandhi, alleging that Anwar was acting under the CM’s influence.
The incident underscores the heated political atmosphere in Kerala ahead of the elections, with already weakened INDI Bloc parties engaging in intense exchanges and accusations among themselves.
