In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at two locations in Sandeshkhali village, West Bengal, associated with an aide of Sheikh Shahjahan, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman currently under suspension. The operation, carried out on Friday, resulted in the discovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made revolvers and a pistol.
According to officials, the seized items comprised three foreign-made revolvers, one foreign-made pistol, one Indian revolver, one Colt official issue police revolver, one country-made pistol, 120 nine mm bullets, 50 cartridges of .45 calibre, 50 cartridges of .380, and eight cartridges of .32.
The CBI stated that the raid was prompted by information suggesting that items lost by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team during an earlier incident, along with other potentially incriminating evidence, could be concealed at the residence of the TMC leader’s associate.
The operation, conducted with the assistance of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, yielded the significant seizure of arms and ammunition.
In another legal development related to Sandeshkhali, the West Bengal government has taken its case to the Supreme Court. It has challenged the Calcutta High Court’s decision to order a CBI probe into allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in the area. The matter is scheduled to be heard on April 29 by a bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.
