In the early hours of Saturday, tragedy struck in Manipur’s Bishnupur district as armed militants launched a deadly attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel stationed in the Naransena area. The assault resulted in the loss of two lives and left two others wounded, according to police reports.

The attack occurred sometime between midnight and 2:15 am, catching the security forces off-guard. The militants, positioned on nearby hilltops, unleashed a barrage of indiscriminate gunfire and hurled bombs at the CRPF camp.

One of these explosives detonated inside the outpost, causing devastation and claiming the lives of CRPF sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini.

Providing more information, a senior police officer revealed that the onslaught persisted for nearly two hours, from around 12:30 am until approximately 2:15 am. Inspector Jadav Das and constable Aftab Hussain, the injured personnel, suffered splinter wounds in the attack.

The CRPF contingent was deployed to ensure the security of the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) camp, underscoring the importance of their presence in the region. Following the incident, a massive search operation was launched to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the heinous act.

This brazen assault serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in insurgency-prone regions like Manipur. Despite concerted efforts to maintain peace and stability, such incidents highlight the persistent threat posed by militant outfits operating in the area.

Authorities have vowed to spare no effort in tracking down those behind the attack and ensuring that justice is served for the fallen CRPF personnel.

Meanwhile, the injured officers are receiving medical treatment, underscoring the risks faced by security personnel in the line of duty.

As investigations continue and the search for the assailants intensifies, the incident has reignited concerns over the safety and security of security forces deployed in conflict zones.

The tragic loss of lives underscores the need for vigilance and robust measures to safeguard the brave men and women serving on the frontlines of defense.
