In West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the state’s Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, demanded the declaration of the ruling party as a ‘terrorist outfit.’ Adhikari’s statement came after a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made revolvers, was uncovered from the premises of suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali.
Adhikari asserted that such weapons are utilized in anti-national activities, implicating the TMC in fostering terrorism within the state.
The recovery, conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), included three foreign-made revolvers, one foreign-made pistol, alongside other firearms and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
Adhikari emphasized the severity of the findings, linking them to international terrorism and demanding decisive action against the TMC. He moreover contended that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee bears responsibility for the situation, calling for her arrest and branding the TMC as a ‘terrorist organization.’

However, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh cast doubt on the CBI’s findings, suggesting a possible conspiracy orchestrated by political opponents. Ghosh’s remarks came before the official statement from the CBI, wherein he disputed the presence of arms and ammunition in Shahjahan’s premises.
The Sandeshkhali region has been embroiled in turmoil, particularly following allegations of sexual harassment and land grabbing against Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates earlier this year.
Shahjahan, subsequently suspended by the TMC for six years, was arrested on February 29 in connection to the unrest in the area.
The unfolding events in West Bengal underscore escalating tensions between political factions, with implications extending to matters of national security. Adhikari’s call to label the TMC as a ‘terrorist organization’ marks a significant escalation in the political rhetoric surrounding the state’s governance, raising questions about law and order and the integrity of its leadership.
As investigations continue and political maneuvers unfold, the future trajectory of West Bengal’s political landscape remains uncertain.
