Around 95 children, aged between 4 and 12, were rescued by the Uttar Pradesh Child Commission on Friday. The rescue operation took place following a tip-off received by the Ayodhya Child Welfare Committee regarding the alleged illegal transportation of children from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh.
According to Sarvesh Awasthi, the Chairperson of the Ayodhya Child Welfare Committee, the rescue was carried out by committee members after they received information from Suchitra Chaturvedi, a member of the UP Child Commission. Chaturvedi alerted the committee about the situation early on Friday morning.
Awasthi revealed that the children, who were rescued, were reportedly being transported illegally from Bihar to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The children were found in Gorakhpur and were suspected to be on their way to Ayodhya. Upon intercepting them, the committee provided the children with food and medical assistance.
It was discovered that the individuals transporting the children did not possess consent letters from the parents.
Moreover, many of the rescued children claimed to be unaware of their destination. The authorities are now in the process of contacting the parents, and the children will be handed over once the parents arrive.
This incident follows a previous rescue operation where a group of children from Bihar, intended for madrasas across states, were rescued by the Uttar Pradesh State Child Commission in Gorakhpur.
Priyank Kanoongo, the chairperson of the National Commission for Protection Of Child Rights, expressed concern over the situation and shared news of the children’s rescue in a post on X, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding children from such illegal activities.
