The foundation of Delhi’s iconic Red Fort was laid on April 29, 1639, and its construction concluded on May 13, 1648, during the reign of Shahjahan. Spanning 2.5 kilometers with walls standing 18 meters high, it overlooks the Yamuna River. The fort, costing over Rs 1 crore, features prominent gateways named Lahori and Delhi. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and a national monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1959, it’s managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Red Fort hosts various museums, including the Subhash Chandra Bose and 1857 Museum.
