The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed the final voter turnout data for the initial two phases of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, indicating a turnout exceeding 66% in both phases.
In the first leg held on April 19, 66.14% of eligible voters cast their ballots, while the second phase on April 26 witnessed a turnout of 66.71%.

Breaking down the data, the ECI revealed that in the first phase, the male turnout was 66.22%, females accounted for 66.07%, and third-gender voters constituted 31.32%. Similarly, in the second phase, male participation was 66.99%, female participation was 66.42%, and third-gender participation was 23.86%.
Out of the total 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, 102 went to polls on April 19, and 88 on April 26. Further phases of voting are scheduled for May 7, 13, 20, 25, and June 1, with the counting of votes and result declaration set for June 4.
Despite efforts by the Election Commission and political parties to encourage greater public participation, various factors, including a prevailing heatwave across the country, have contributed to a decrease in turnout compared to the opening phases of the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The decline in voter participation underscores the significance of ongoing efforts to engage citizens and address the challenges that deter them from exercising their democratic rights.
As Bharat progresses through the remaining phases of the Lok Sabha elections, stakeholders will continue to monitor voter engagement and work towards ensuring robust participation in the electoral process.
