Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the 34th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, hailed as the Father of the Bodos, with heartfelt tributes and solemn ceremonies on Wednesday.

Expressing his thought, CM Himanta wrote on X, “On Smriti Diwas, I began today’s campaign by paying homage to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma at his Samadhi in Dotoma. We recall his exemplary service to our nation. His struggles gave hope to the Bodo society. Bodofa’s outstanding life has had a profound impact in shaping my values and thoughts.”

The All Bodo Students’ Union or ABSU also marked the occasion with reverence. ABSU Chief Dipen Boro led the half-hoisting of the ABSU’s flag at Thulugapuri, Dotma, followed by a poignant floral tribute at Bodofa’s tomb, initiated by Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma.

Notably, Bodofa’s burial site received floral tributes, led by Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. Daimary praised Bodofa’s revolutionary life, emphasising his pivotal role in creating Bodo identity, language, culture, and traditions worldwide.

Reflecting on Bodofa’s legacy, Daimary mentioned, “Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma lived a revolutionary life, igniting the Bodos of the world to realise their identity and existence with their language, culture, and traditions.”

He highlighted Bodofa’s pivotal leadership during his tenure as the ABSU president, a position he held until his demise in 1987.

“Bodofa is an ideal for us. When there are any kind of obstacles to the unity of the community we remember him and his teachings to move forward in society,” remarked Daimary.
