In the last general election held in 2019, Maneka Gandhi secured victory with 4,59,196 votes, defeating the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, Chandra Bhadra Singh, who garnered 4,44,670 votes. This time, Gandhi reiterated her optimism, stating, “It is always a competition, but I think we will win. This time, there is less challenge.”
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has nominated Bheem Nishad as its candidate for the Sultanpur seat, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle.
In response to the candidature of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from neighboring constituencies of Amethi and Raebareli, Maneka Gandhi commented, “Only 2 days are left for nomination, I don’t know when they will reveal (the names).”
The electoral landscape in Uttar Pradesh has been dynamic, with Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya taking a dig at the Opposition INDIA bloc, asserting that they are in a vulnerable position.
Maurya quipped, “The Opposition is nowhere in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. They are lying in the ICU and the public is not ready to give them oxygen.” He reaffirmed the BJP’s dominance, projecting a landslide victory with the slogan ‘Abki Baar, 400 Paar’.
Uttar Pradesh, being a key battleground state, is witnessing polling across all seven phases, with the counting scheduled for June 4. The first two phases, held on April 19 and April 26 respectively, have already concluded, setting the stage for intense political competition across the remaining phases.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP emerged as the dominant force, securing a significant majority of 62 out of 80 seats, signaling its stronghold in the state.
