During a recent mega rally in Purba Bardhaman district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he had once again shifted his electoral battleground, this time from Kerala’s Wayanad to his mother’s old stronghold, Raebareli.
Modi drew parallels to Gandhi’s move from Amethi in 2019 after facing defeat there. He accused Gandhi of fleeing to Wayanad out of fear of losing, only to now seek refuge in Raebareli.
Modi reiterated his previous prediction made in Parliament that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul’s mother, would step down from contesting elections. He pointed out that Sonia resigned as the MP of Raebareli and took a seat in the Rajya Sabha from Jaipur, as he had foreseen.
Moreover, Modi claimed that Rahul’s decision to leave Wayanad mirrored his flight from Amethi, suggesting a pattern of seeking safer seats.
In previous rallies, Modi had predicted that Rahul Gandhi would “run away” from Wayanad, similar to his actions in Amethi. He used this narrative to underscore what he sees as Gandhi’s lack of confidence in facing electoral challenges.
Challenges to Congress and Opposition
PM Modi issued three challenges to the Congress and its allies in the Opposition. Firstly, he demanded a written commitment that they would not amend the Constitution based on religion, nor tamper with reservations for marginalized communities.
Modi accused the Opposition of prioritizing vote bank politics over the welfare of the country.
He accused the opposition bloc of resorting to divisive tactics to secure electoral gains, alleging that they were willing to manipulate constitutional principles for their own benefit. Modi highlighted instances in Congress-ruled Karnataka where reservations were allegedly redirected based on religious considerations.
Allegations of Divisive Politics
Modi accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal of indulging in divisive politics, while alleging that the Congress had called for “vote jihad.” He claimed that the TMC was silent on issues affecting Hindu communities in the state, citing incidents of violence and discrimination.
The Prime Minister condemned remarks made by a TMC MLA threatening to throw Hindus into the Bhagirathi river, questioning the treatment of Hindus as second-class citizens in Bengal. He criticized the TMC for allegedly shielding perpetrators of atrocities against Dalit women in Sandeshkhali.
Opposition Criticized for Lack of Development Vision
In a scathing critique of the Opposition, PM Modi asserted that they lacked a vision for the development of the nation. He accused them of resorting to divisive tactics to protect their vote banks instead of focusing on the nation’s growth.
Modi emphasized that he was undeterred by the Opposition’s attacks and vowed to continue working for the people’s welfare. He framed the upcoming elections as a choice between a government committed to development and an opposition focused on divisive politics.
PM Modi’s speech underscored his campaign narrative of portraying the Opposition as lacking in vision and integrity, while positioning himself as a steadfast leader committed to the country’s growth.
