Former US President Donald Trump has announced that he will reveal his choice for vice president closer to the Republican National Convention, which is set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15–18.
In an interview, Trump stated that while he will be selecting a candidate, it won’t be until around the time of the convention.
Trump, who is expected to be the GOP nominee for the November elections, expressed confidence in his campaign’s ability to spread its message without immediate assistance. He also mentioned, “I don’t think so,” when asked if he required someone else to campaign for him, asserting that they are effectively reaching out to the public.
The convention tradition typically involves the vice presidential candidate delivering a speech to delegates on the evening preceding its conclusion.
Trump’s decision to delay the announcement aligns with his approach during the 2016 elections when he revealed Mike Pence as his running mate in the final week leading up to the convention.
Despite facing legal challenges such as the ongoing hush money trial in New York related to payments made to Stormy Daniels, a former adult film star, Trump stated that he is not expediting the VP selection process due to legal obligations.
Trump Narrows VP Choices to Four
According to a report, Trump has narrowed down his list of potential vice presidential candidates to four individuals. These include Republican senators Marco Rubio of Florida, J.D. Vance of Ohio, and Tim Scott of South Carolina, along with North Dakota governor Doug Burgum.
Earlier reports suggested that biotech tycoon Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer in contention, and sources indicated that South Dakota governor Kristi Noem is unlikely to be chosen due to controversy surrounding a dog-killing scandal involving her.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had previously ruled himself out as Trump’s running mate during a call with fundraisers in February.
Speculation Surrounding VP Pick Continues
While Trump has hinted at his preferences for a running mate, he has not disclosed specific details about his prospective VP or the exact timing of the announcement. The anticipation surrounding his choice adds to the ongoing speculation within political circles.
As the Republican National Convention approaches, all eyes will be on Trump’s decision regarding his vice presidential candidate, which could significantly impact the dynamics of the upcoming November elections.
