In a recent development concerning the Rohith Vemula suicide case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This demand comes in the wake of the closure report filed by the Telangana Police, which has reignited the political debate surrounding Vemula’s tragic demise.
The BJP has accused the Congress and its allies of exploiting Dalits for political gains, emphasizing the need for accountability in the aftermath of the closure report. Notably, with the Congress in power in Telangana, the BJP questioned whether Rahul Gandhi would issue an apology to the Dalit community, given the findings of the police report.
Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT Cell, condemned Gandhi’s alleged politicization of the issue and took to social media to express his stance. Sharing a video of Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha, Malviya underscored the significance of the closure report. He urged Gandhi to apologize to the Dalit community in light of the Telangana Police’s findings, which state that Vemula was not a Dalit and that his death was a suicide.
Furthermore, Malviya criticized the Congress and other opposition parties for their purported exploitation of Dalits for political purposes. He highlighted a pattern of using Dalit issues for political leverage without delivering justice, branding it as another instance of such behavior.
The demand for an apology from Rahul Gandhi and the ensuing discourse reflect the ongoing tensions between political parties over sensitive social issues, underscoring the need for accountability and ethical engagement in political discourse.
