Inflammatory Imagery Sparks Diplomatic Tensions Between Bharat and Canada
Bharat has once again expressed its strong condemnation over the display of Sikh Separatist imagery during a religious parade held in Malton, Toronto.
The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, voiced concerns regarding the violent imagery and aggressive targeting of Bharatiya political figures during the event organized by the Ontario Gurdwara Committee.
The parade, spanning 6 kilometers, featured floats and speeches that aggressively targeted Bharatiya political figures, including a depiction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi behind bars.
Figures such as Paramjit Mand of Dal Khalsa and Avtar Singh Pannu, labeled as a terrorist by Bharatiya security agencies, delivered inflammatory speeches, adding to the escalating tensions.
Bharat Calls for Action to Ensure Diplomatic Security
Expressing concerns over the security of Bharatiya diplomatic representatives in Canada, Jaiswal emphasized the need for the Government of Canada to ensure their safety.
Bharat has repeatedly called upon Canada to prevent criminal and secessionist elements from finding refuge and political space within its borders.
Strained Relations Between New Delhi and Ottawa
Ties between Bharat and Canada have been strained since Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s allegations last year regarding the potential involvement of gangsters in the killing of Sikh Separatist terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. New Delhi dismissed Trudeau’s accusations as “absurd,” further deepening the diplomatic divide.
Bharat Lodges Protest Over Trudeau’s Attendance at Khalsa Day Celebration
Most recently, Bharatiya authorities lodged a strong protest over Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s presence at a Khalsa Day celebration event in Toronto.
Videos from the event showed Sikh Separatist slogans being raised as Trudeau addressed the crowd. Bharat summoned the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner to express disapproval and concerns over the political space afforded to extremist and violent ideologies in Canada.
Call for Democratic Values and Rule of Law
In a statement, Jaiswal emphasized that the celebration and glorification of violence have no place in civilized societies. He called upon democratic nations, which respect the rule of law, to prevent intimidation by radical elements in the guise of freedom of expression. Bharat urges Canada to take decisive action to address these concerns and uphold democratic values.
As tensions continue to rise over the display of Sikh Separatist imagery and the political space afforded to extremist elements in Canada, the diplomatic relations between Bharat and Canada remain strained.
Bharat’s call for action underscores the significance of addressing radical ideologies while upholding democratic principles and ensuring the safety of diplomatic representatives.
