In a recent statement, Russia has accused the United States of attempting to interfere in India’s upcoming General Election, labeling it as part of a broader campaign to meddle in the country’s internal affairs.
Maria Zakharova, the official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, asserted that the US seeks to disrupt India’s internal political landscape to complicate the ongoing parliamentary elections.

When questioned about US involvement in Indian elections, Zakharova stated, “Absolutely. I think that this is a desire to complicate the ongoing general parliamentary elections in India on the part of the United States and is part of a campaign to interfere in India’s internal affairs.” She further emphasized that this move aims to unsettle India’s internal political dynamics, thus complicating the electoral process.
India had previously criticized the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) for allegedly attempting to intervene in its electoral process and perpetuating propaganda against the nation under the guise of an annual report.
Responding to USCIRF’s latest report, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the organization as biased with a political agenda. Jaiswal emphasized that USCIRF’s continuous dissemination of propaganda against India through its annual reports reflects its lack of understanding of India’s diverse, pluralistic, and democratic fabric.
Jaiswal dismissed USCIRF’s efforts to interfere in India’s electoral process, asserting that such attempts would not succeed. USCIRF’s latest annual report criticized India for alleged violations of religious freedom and reiterated its recommendation to the US State Department to designate India as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” due to these violations.
The report highlighted concerns over the deterioration of religious freedom in India and accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of reinforcing discriminatory nationalist policies.
