The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has told the Delhi High Court that it will make the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party an accused in the liquor policy scam case. The central agency made the submission while the court was considering AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s plea seeking bail in the excise policy case.
It said AAP will be made an accused in the supplementary charge sheet. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court deferred hearing arguments on consideration of the sixth supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED in connection with the Delhi liquor excise policy, to May 20.
The court also extended the judicial custody of BRS leader K. Kavitha till May 20. Meanwhile the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in the excise policy case.
The Enforcement Directorate opposed the move to grant interim bail to Kejriwal as it stated that any special concession to him would amount to anathema to the rule of law and equality thereby creating two separate classes in the country viz. ordinary people, who are bound by the rule of law as well as the laws of the country, and politicians who can seek exemption from the laws’.
On March 21 the ED had arrested Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case. ‘The right to campaign for an election is neither a fundamental right nor a constitutional right and not even a legal right’, the ED said, maintaining that to its knowledge, no political leader has been granted interim bail for campaigning even though he is not the contesting candidate.
