In the run-up to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Charanjit Singh Channi, the Congress candidate from the Jalandhar parliamentary seat in Punjab, voiced strong opposition against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s upcoming visit to the state for campaigning. Channi, on Wednesday, asserted that Kejriwal, embroiled in a liquor scandal and recently released from jail, cannot be trusted and should face resistance.
“Kejriwal, involved in a liquor scam and freshly out of jail for only 15 days, cannot be relied upon. A significant liquor scandal occurred in Delhi, mirroring events in Punjab. We demand a thorough investigation. Instead of a warm reception, he should be met with opposition,” Channi remarked.
Channi is pitted against AAP’s Pawan Kumar Tinu and SAD candidate Mohinder Singh Kaypee in the Jalandhar constituency. Punjab, featuring all 13 Lok Sabha seats, is scheduled to hold elections in a single phase on June 1.
According to sources within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to embark on a campaign visit to Punjab on Thursday. The AAP plans to organize a grand roadshow in Amritsar to inaugurate Kejriwal’s campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will join the roadshow, commencing at 6 pm on Thursday. Following the roadshow, Kejriwal will pay homage at Shri Harminder Saheb.
It’s noteworthy that while the Congress and AAP decided to contest the Punjab elections independently, they are allied under the INDIA bloc in Delhi. The seat-sharing agreement in Delhi allocates four seats to AAP and three to Congress for the Lok Sabha polls.
