Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will construct a temple dedicated to Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi, Bihar. This statement was made during a rally in the town, as part of the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Commitment to Religious Monuments
Shah emphasized the BJP’s commitment to building significant religious monuments. He mentioned the recent construction of the Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah stated, “The BJP does not fear ‘vote bank’ politics. After building the temple of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, our next mission is to create a grand memorial at the birthplace of Ma Sita.”

Sitamarhi holds special significance in Hindu mythology. As per the scriptures, Sita, the wife of Lord Ram, emerged from an earthen pot when King Janak was plowing a field near this area. This connection to Sita’s origins makes Sitamarhi an ideal location for the proposed temple.
The announcement comes ahead of the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for May 20, in which Sitamarhi is one of the 40 constituencies in Bihar. During the rally, Amit Shah also criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Shah accused Yadav of aligning with the Congress party for political gain, aiming to make his son the Chief Minister.
Amit Shah accused the Congress and RJD of neglecting the interests of backward and extremely backward communities. He highlighted that the Modi government conferred the Bharat Ratna on former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, a recognition he claimed the Congress and RJD never considered.
During his speech in election rally, Shah contrasted the BJP’s vision of ‘vikasraj’ (rule of development) with what he termed ‘jungleraj’ (lawlessness) under previous administrations. He urged the people of Bihar to support the BJP for continued progress and stability in the state.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 39 out of 40 seats in Bihar, demonstrating significant support in the region. The BJP hopes to maintain this momentum in the upcoming elections.
By promising to build the Sita temple in Sitamarhi, the BJP aims to appeal to religious sentiments and secure votes in a critical phase of the elections.
