As the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 progress, Bharat witnesses a promising turnout of voters across the country. Nearly 66.95% of eligible voters have exercised their franchise in the first four phases of the elections, with an estimated 451 million people casting their votes. This remarkable participation reflects the commitment of Bharatiya citizens to the democratic process.
To further boost voter turnout, the Election Commission of India (ECI), under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, has intensified targeted interventions.
CEOs of states scheduled for the upcoming phases have been directed to ensure the timely distribution of voter information slips to all electors and enhance outreach activities.
CEC Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of collaboration in the voter awareness program, acknowledging the efforts of various institutions, influencers, and celebrities who have volunteered to promote voter participation. He stressed that a higher voter turnout would not only strengthen Bharatiya democracy but also send a powerful message to the world about the nation’s democratic values.
Various stakeholders, including Telecom Service Providers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, Google India, Retail Association of India, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Civil Aviation, cinema theatres, dairy cooperatives like AMUL and Mother Dairy, Prasar Bharati, music app Spotify, payment app PhonePe, online platforms like BookMyShow and MakeMyTrip, food delivery platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy, and transportation services like Uber India and Rapido, have collaborated with ECI to conduct extensive voter awareness campaigns.
These initiatives include
- sending SMS alerts,
- making outbound calls,
- displaying voter awareness messages at cricket stadiums during IPL matches,
- integrating voter awareness into social media platforms,
- distributing voter guides,
- displaying voter awareness messages at airports and railway stations,
- screening PSA films in cinema theatres,
- broadcasting voter awareness appeals by constitutional functionaries,
- curating playlists for the elections,
- offering discounts and incentives for voters,
- creatively incorporating voter awareness messages into various products and services.
With four phases of the Lok Sabha polls already completed, the remaining phases are scheduled for May 20, May 25, and June 1, with results expected on June 4.
The concerted efforts of the Election Commission of India and its collaborators aim to ensure maximum participation in the democratic process and uphold the spirit of Bharatiya democracy.
