Bibhav Kumar, the aide and former personal secretary of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday. The arrest is linked to allegations of assault against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Swati Maliwal. Kumar was taken out of the Chief Minister’s residence through the back gate.
The incident came to light after Delhi Police registered a case against Kumar two days earlier, following a complaint by Maliwal. In her complaint, Maliwal alleged that Kumar slapped her 7–8 times and repeatedly kicked her in the chest and stomach during a visit to the Chief Minister’s residence on May 13.
Maliwal also mentioned that the assault continued despite her telling Kumar that she was on her periods. As a result, she claimed her arms were sore, and she had difficulty walking.
On Friday, the police took Maliwal to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to recreate the crime scene. They also recorded her statement before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari court.

Responding, Bibhav Kumar filed a counter-complaint at the Civil Lines police station. He alleged that Maliwal had “forcefully and unauthorisedly” entered the Chief Minister’s residence and attempted to create a disturbance and assault him.
Kumar further claimed that Maliwal intended to harm the AAP chief and that he strongly objected to her actions.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi minister Atishi suggested that Maliwal was being “blackmailed” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to participate in a conspiracy against the Chief Minister. This claim follows Kejriwal’s recent grant of interim bail in the liquor policy case, allowing him to campaign for upcoming polls.
On Friday, the AAP released a video from May 13 showing Maliwal arguing with security guards at the Chief Minister’s residence. In the video, Maliwal can be heard threatening the guards with police action and daring them to throw her out.
Another video shows Maliwal being escorted out of the residence by security personnel. AAP accused Maliwal of staging a drama, pointing out that she was seen walking without a limp.
Atishi, speaking for AAP, stated that the video evidence contradicts Maliwal’s claims. She noted that Maliwal’s clothes were not torn, and she did not appear to be in pain. Atishi argued that the video shows Maliwal using abusive language towards Kumar and that the CCTV footage demonstrates she was leaving the residence comfortably.
This incident has sparked significant controversy, with allegations and counter-allegations from both sides. The case is under investigation by the Delhi Police.
