The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that 889 candidates from 8 States and Union Territories (UTs) will be contesting in the 6th phase of the Lok Sabha elections. This phase includes 20 candidates for the postponed election in the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency (PC) of Jammu and Kashmir.
A total of 1,978 nominations were filed for 57 parliamentary constituencies across 7 States and UTs, excluding the adjourned poll in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency of Jammu and Kashmir. After the scrutiny of all nominations, 900 were found to be valid.

Polling Dates and Phases
The elections are being conducted in 7 phases, with the 4th phase scheduled for May 13 and the 6th phase on May 25. Voting for the first two phases has already taken place. The election process will conclude on June 1, and the votes will be counted on June 4.

State-wise Nominations
Uttar Pradesh saw the highest number of nominations with 470 candidates from 14 parliamentary constituencies. Haryana followed with 370 nominations from 10 constituencies.
The Ranchi parliamentary constituency in Jharkhand received the highest number of nominations with 70 candidates, while the North East Delhi constituency had 69 nominations.
In the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, 28 nominations were filed, and 21 of these were found to be valid. This constituency’s poll was initially planned for phase three but was adjourned and included in the sixth phase.
The ECI mentioned that the average number of candidates contesting in a parliamentary constituency for the 6th phase is 15.
The last date for filing nominations for phase 6 was May 6, excluding the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. The Election Commission also instructed all States and UTs to ensure that candidates receive their ‘No Dues certificates’ promptly, which are required to be included in their affidavits.
The Lok Sabha elections are a critical democratic process, and the ECI is working to ensure a smooth and fair election across all phases. The upcoming phases will be closely watched as candidates campaign and prepare for the final voting days.
