On Tuesday Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were forced to abandon their scheduled practice session and pre-match press conference in Ahmedabad.
A security threat, centering around the safety of batsman Virat Kohli, cast a shadow over the team’s preparations for the do-or-die Eliminator clash against Rajasthan Royals.
While RCB were supposed to practice at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, a day before their knockout match, the team decided to cancel it with no official statement coming from them.
Both teams then even went on to cancel a pre-match press conference, especially before a big match.
As per the media reports Gujarat Police have reportedly arrested four men from the Ahmedabad airport on suspicion of terrorist activities.
A search of the place where the suspects lay hidden included weapons, suspicious texts and videos among other things hinting a security threat to Kohli. The information was conveyed to both teams which is when RCB opted to cancel their practice session while RR went ahead with their net session.
‘Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad. He is a national treasure, and his security is our utmost priority, Vijay Singh Jwala’, said a police officer.
