Bharat’s Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has traveled to Tehran to pay tribute to the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash. Alongside Raisi, the crash claimed the life of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several others. Dhankhar also met with Iran’s Acting President, Mohammad Mokhber, to convey condolences on behalf of Bharat.
In Tehran, a memorial ceremony is underway to honor the lives lost in the helicopter crash. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei has declared five days of national mourning in Iran.

The ceremony has seen the attendance of at least 10 heads of state, along with 30 delegations headed by ministers and speakers, paying their respects to the late President Raisi and other Iranian officials.
Among the dignitaries who have paid their respects are Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Tunisian President Kais Saied, Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, Taliban’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, among others.
Meanwhile, in Iran, thousands of people have gathered to mourn as the funeral ceremony for President Raisi commenced in the city of Tabriz. The ceremony is taking place in the north-western region where the tragic helicopter crash occurred.
Bharat’s President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their condolences to the government and people of Iran. PM Modi, in a social media post, expressed deep sadness over President Raisi’s demise and acknowledged his contributions to strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Iran.
The Iranian government has declared Wednesday as a public holiday to honor the memory of President Raisi and others who lost their lives in the crash. Raisi’s body is scheduled to be buried in his birthplace, Mashhad, on Thursday, as announced by Vice-President of the Republic, Mohsen Mansouri.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier condoled the demise of President Raisi, highlighting his efforts in enhancing the ties between Bharat and Iran. In his message, PM Modi expressed solidarity with Iran during this period of grief and offered heartfelt condolences to Raisi’s family and the people of Iran.
