Bharatiya filmmaker Chidananda S Naik has clinched the prestigious first prize at the renowned Cannes Film Festival for Best Short Film. His captivating creation, titled ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know,’ swept the competition, standing out among 17 other remarkable entries. The competition was fierce, with a total of 2,263 submissions from 555 film schools globally.
Naik, a student at the esteemed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), crafted a compelling 16-minute narrative that revolves around a small village plunged into turmoil by the theft of a rooster by an elderly woman.
The ensuing chaos prompts the invocation of a prophecy, leading to the exile of the woman’s family in a bid to retrieve the stolen rooster.
