The Indian women’s archery team, comprising Parneet Kaur, Aditi Swami, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, clinched their third consecutive gold medal at the Archery World Cup on Saturday, May 25.
The trio triumphed in the compound stage two event in South Korea, overpowering Turkey’s team of Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer, and Begum Yuva with a score of 232-226.
The Indian team, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, showcased their prowess from the start, leaving the Turkish team struggling to keep pace. The final began on a competitive note with the Indian archers hitting three Xs on their first three arrows but dropping one point each in the next three. They managed to claim the first round by just a single point.
In the second round, the Indian archers demonstrated their dominance, striking five 10s with two Xs, extending their lead by four points.
The Turkish team displayed resilience in the penultimate round, matching India’s total of 58 with four 10s, including one X. However, India’s substantial lead proved insurmountable, securing their victory.
This win marks the third gold medal for the Indian trio at the Archery World Cup. India’s hopes for more medals remain high, with Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh competing in the compound mixed team final against the USA, and Prathamesh Fuge eyeing a medal in the compound category.
