West Indies experienced an injury blow ahead of their T20 World Cup campaign after Jason Holder was ruled out with an unspecified injury.
Left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy, who is playing the present series against South Africa, has been named as Holder’s replacement.
Holder suffered the injury while playing for Worcestershire in the County Championship. However, Cricket West Indies’ release didn’t mention the nature of the injury and the timelines of his recovery.
Chief selector Desmond Haynes said ‘Jason is an experienced player in our set-up. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field’.
He added, ‘We look forward to having a fully fit Jason with us again soon’. Desmond further added, ‘While it is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason’s calibre, we are confident in the abilities of Obed McCoy. Obed has shown impressive skill and promise in his performances, and this opportunity will allow him to further show his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the squad’.
CWI also named a pool of five reserve players from which a replacement player will be picked if there are subsequent injuries in the squad. The co-hosts and two-time champions of the T20 World Cup begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2.
