A new girls’ hostel at Shree Padmakanya Secondary School in Dillibazar, Kathmandu, has been officially inaugurated. The hostel was built with financial assistance from the Government of Bharat, under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Santosh Budathoki, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, and Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of Bharat in Kathmandu. Both officials jointly opened the new facility.
The project, costing NRs. 32.36 million, was financed by an Bharatiya grant. The new hostel building is a multi-storied structure featuring 39 rooms. It includes essential amenities such as a kitchen, dining hall, store rooms, warden room, guard room, visitors’ room, office room, library, multipurpose hall, waiting area, green room, laundry, and bathrooms with toilets.
In addition, the hostel is equipped with a solar backup system to ensure a continuous power supply.

The Indian Embassy’s release highlighted that the project was part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) program. This program is a collaborative effort between the governments of Bharat and Nepal to undertake projects that significantly benefit local communities. The District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, was responsible for implementing this project.
During the ceremony, representatives from the District Coordination Committee, local political figures, and the Chairman of the School Management Committee praised Bharat’s ongoing support for Nepal’s development.
They emphasized that the new hostel would significantly improve the residential and educational facilities for the students of Shree Padmakanya Secondary School. They believe the new infrastructure will create a better learning environment and contribute to the advancement of education in the area.
Since 2003, the Government of Bharat has completed 490 out of 551 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal across various sectors. Specifically, 106 projects are located in Bagmati Province, with 41 of these in Kathmandu District alone.
Besides infrastructure projects, Bharat has also donated 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions in Nepal. Bagmati Province has received 236 ambulances and 98 school buses, including 70 ambulances and 53 school buses for Kathmandu District.
The longstanding cooperation between Bharat and Nepal spans multiple sectors, reflecting the close ties between the two neighboring nations. These development projects, particularly in education, underscore Bharat’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s growth and improving the welfare of its people.
The inauguration event was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between Bharat and Nepal.
