A 17-year-old boy involved in a late-night Porsche crash that killed two 24-year-old engineers in Pune has told police he cannot remember the incident because he was drunk, sources revealed. The teen, now in an observation home, awaits a decision from the Juvenile Justice Board on whether he will be tried as an adult. Surveillance footage shows the boy drinking shortly before the accident, and he allegedly spent ₹ 48,000 at a pub that night.
During interrogation, the teenager claimed he couldn’t recollect the events of the night. Authorities are attempting to recover his original blood sample, which was reportedly tampered with to exonerate him. The crime branch’s investigation exposed a complex scheme to protect the minor.
Multiple FIRs have been registered, including charges related to the accident, serving alcohol to a minor, and the boy’s father, a prominent realtor, allowing him to drive without a license. The teen’s parents face separate charges for attempting to destroy evidence, while his grandfather is accused of kidnapping and threatening the family’s driver to take the blame.
Two doctors from Sassoon Hospital, including the forensic department head, have been arrested for allegedly switching blood samples. The boy’s grandfather, father, and mother have also been detained for their roles in the cover-up. The teen’s mother claims she unknowingly provided her sample instead of her son’s, stating doctors did not explain the reason for the collection.
The accident, which claimed the lives of software engineers Ashwini Kostha and Aneesh Awadhiya, caused nationwide outrage after the teen was initially granted bail under controversial conditions—a 300-word essay, 15 days of work with traffic police, and psychiatric treatment for his drinking. Following public outcry, the Juvenile Justice Board revised its decision, sending the teen to an observation home.
