Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. During this meeting, he staked his claim to form the government as the leader of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This move follows his election as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party earlier in the day at a meeting of the ruling alliance’s constituents.

Earlier on Friday, PM Modi met with former President Ram Nath Kovind. He also visited veteran BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi at their respective residences. These meetings were part of a series of engagements reflecting his respect for senior figures within the party and his acknowledgment of their contributions.

Narendra Modi said, “The President called me just now and asked me to work as the PM designate and she has informed me about the oath ceremony. I have told the President that we will be comfortable on the evening of the 9th of June. Now the Rashtrapati Bhavan will work out the rest of the details and by then we will hand over the list of the Council of Ministers to the President. After that, the oath ceremony will take place.”

The meeting of NDA allies took place at Samvidhan Sadan, where the Prime Minister was welcomed with chants of ‘Modi Modi’. Demonstrating his respect for the Constitution, Prime Minister Modi touched a copy of it with his forehead as he arrived to join the meeting.
