The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) has opened a new branch in Ahmedabad. The inauguration took place at the Space Applications Centre, ISRO Ahmedabad, marking an important step in the advancement of aeronautical sciences and the strengthening of collaboration among aerospace professionals.
The event began with a welcome address, followed by a traditional felicitation and lamp invocation, setting a respectful and dignified tone. DK Singh, Associate Director at SAC, welcomed and honored the guests by offering them a shawl.

Siddharth Kumar from the AeSI Headquarters introduced the society and its mission. He explained how the new branch in Ahmedabad will contribute to Bharat’s national aerospace goals. Kumar highlighted the importance of AeSI in promoting research and innovation in aeronautics across the country.
Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, the former Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and President of AeSI, gave the presidential address. His speech focused on “Defence Technologies for Bharat’s National Security.” Dr. Reddy emphasized the crucial role of advanced technologies in enhancing Bharat’s defence capabilities and achieving the goal of self-reliance, known as Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The keynote address was delivered by S. Somanath, Secretary of the Department of Space and Chairman of ISRO, who is also the President-Elect of AeSI. He spoke about the strategic importance of advancements in aerospace and the need for collaborative efforts to place India at the forefront of global aerospace research and innovation.
Somanath also mentioned that AeSI could play a key role in developing aeronautics in western Bharat, with Ahmedabad set to become a hub for this field.
During the ceremony, the SPACE Society of Mechanical Engineers (SSME) also honored the Secretary of the Department of Space and the former Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D. Dr. G Satheesh Reddy was given honorary life membership of SSME by Shri Neeraj Mathur, President of SSME.
The establishment of the AeSI Ahmedabad branch is expected to promote greater engagement and collaboration among aerospace professionals in the region. This move is seen as a significant step toward advancing technology and innovation in the field of aeronautics.
