Chirag Paswan, the Chief of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), has been appointed as the Minister of Food Processing Industries in the latest cabinet reshuffle under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Expressing his commitment to the new role, Paswan affirmed his dedication to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Prime Minister. Chirag Paswan Vows to Fulfill Ministerial Duties of Food Processing Industries: Willingness to Assume Any Responsibility

Speaking to ANI, Paswan emphasized the significance of food processing in Bharat, highlighting its potential to boost employment opportunities and contribute to the nation’s development. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the efficient processing, packaging, and marketing of agricultural produce to harness the sector’s potential fully.

Chirag Paswan stated, “I will fulfil whatever responsibility has been given to me by the Prime Minister and I have been given the responsibility of a department which I had also mentioned in my vision document… Ours is an agricultural country, so it is very important that the processing, packaging and marketing of what the farmers produce is good… This will not only provide employment opportunities in large numbers in the country, but the future belongs to this department… Today is the time of processing, I think it has a huge scope in India and it will contribute greatly to the development of the country …”

Paswan’s appointment comes as part of the recent cabinet expansion announced by the President’s Secretariat, following the swearing-in ceremony of the council of ministers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The allocation of portfolios was made based on Prime Minister Modi’s recommendations.

Having secured victory in the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency during the 2024 general elections, Paswan’s political journey has seen him representing various constituencies over the years. His electoral successes, including retaining his seat in the 2019 elections, have solidified his position within the LJP and the broader political landscape of Bihar.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a total of five LJP MPs emerged victorious in Bihar, underscoring the party’s continued relevance in the state’s political dynamics. Alongside Paswan, Veena Devi, Arun Bharti, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Rajesh Verma clinched their respective seats, contributing to the overall success of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The NDA’s dominant performance in the Lok Sabha elections, securing 293 seats with BJP alone clinching 240 seats, reaffirms the coalition’s mandate and majority in the lower house of the Bharatiya parliament. With Paswan’s induction into the cabinet, the Modi government aims to leverage his leadership and expertise to bolster the food processing sector and drive economic growth in the country.
