Paswan’s appointment comes as part of the recent cabinet expansion announced by the President’s Secretariat, following the swearing-in ceremony of the council of ministers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The allocation of portfolios was made based on Prime Minister Modi’s recommendations.
Having secured victory in the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency during the 2024 general elections, Paswan’s political journey has seen him representing various constituencies over the years. His electoral successes, including retaining his seat in the 2019 elections, have solidified his position within the LJP and the broader political landscape of Bihar.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a total of five LJP MPs emerged victorious in Bihar, underscoring the party’s continued relevance in the state’s political dynamics. Alongside Paswan, Veena Devi, Arun Bharti, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Rajesh Verma clinched their respective seats, contributing to the overall success of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The NDA’s dominant performance in the Lok Sabha elections, securing 293 seats with BJP alone clinching 240 seats, reaffirms the coalition’s mandate and majority in the lower house of the Bharatiya parliament. With Paswan’s induction into the cabinet, the Modi government aims to leverage his leadership and expertise to bolster the food processing sector and drive economic growth in the country.
