In a political step, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Mohan Charan Majhi as the new chief minister of Odisha. This decision came after the party secured a remarkable victory in the recent Odisha assembly elections, winning 78 out of 147 seats. Majhi, a four-time MLA, emerged victorious from the Keonjhar assembly constituency, defeating Biju Janata Dal’s Mina Majhi by a margin of 11,577 votes.
The announcement regarding Mohan Charan Majhi’s appointment as the leader of the BJP’s legislature party was made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Alongside Majhi, KV Singhdeo and Pravati Parida have been named as his deputies, signifying a well-structured leadership team for the new government.

Despite the resounding victory, the BJP has extended an invitation to BJD president and outgoing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled to take place on June 12. This gesture underscores the spirit of inclusivity and democratic values.
Preparations Underway for Swearing-in Ceremony
Preparations are in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony, which is set to be held at Janata Maidan park. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with central ministers and chief ministers from various BJP-ruled states, is expected to attend the event. The ceremony holds significance as it marks the beginning of a new era in Odisha’s political landscape.
To facilitate the smooth conduct of the swearing-in ceremony, the Odisha government has announced the closure of all state government offices and courts in the state capital, Bhubaneswar, after 1 pm on June 12. This decision aims to ensure the participation of government officials and employees in the historic event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the state capital at 2:30 pm on June 12 and will proceed to Raj Bhavan from the airport. Subsequently, he will grace the oath-taking ceremony at Janata Maidan at 5 pm, highlighting the significance of the event at the national level.
In a symbolic gesture, the Odisha unit of the BJP has urged citizens to observe June 12 akin to Diwali by lighting at least two diyas (lamps) – one for the central government and another for the state government. This call for public participation reflects the enthusiasm and optimism surrounding the formation of the new government.
As the stage is set for the swearing-in of the new chief minister and cabinet, all eyes are on the Janata Maidan, where history will be made as Odisha welcomes its new leadership.
