Pawan Kalyan, the leader of Janasena Party, has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. This move has been eagerly awaited and marks a major step for the actor-turned-politician in his political career.
Alongside his deputy chief minister role, Pawan Kalyan has been assigned several key portfolios including Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Environment, Forests, and Science and Technology.
Naidu’s son, Nara Lokesh, who is a Stanford MBA graduate and former World Bank official, has been allocated the portfolios of Human Resources Development, Information Technology, and Communication. Lokesh, a former minister himself, secured victory in the Mangalagiri constituency with a substantial margin in the recent elections.
Anitha Vangalapudi has been appointed as the Home Minister, while Chief Minister Naidu will continue to oversee the Law and Order portfolio. The cabinet includes a diverse representation with 17 first-time ministers, three women, and members from various communities including backward classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities.
The swearing-in ceremony saw a total of 24 ministers taking office, comprising members from the TDP, Janasena, and BJP parties. Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena party, in alliance with TDP and BJP, achieved a sweeping victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 164 out of 175 seats. This electoral success also translated into a dominant performance in the Lok Sabha polls, winning 21 out of 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh.

Among the key responsibilities allocated, P Narayana has been entrusted with the Municipal Administration portfolio, critical for the development of the Amaravati capital region. The Amaravati project, initiated in 2015, has faced challenges due to shifts in political power, notably after the 2019 elections when the YSRCP assumed governance.
Pawan Kalyan’s elevation to the role of Deputy Chief Minister marks a new chapter in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape, reflecting the dynamics of the TDP-Janasena-BJP alliance’s electoral mandate. With diverse portfolios distributed among ministers, including significant developmental responsibilities, the government aims to advance its agenda of growth and governance in the state.
