Slamming the Congress for showing support to author Arundhati Roy, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday questioned the grand old party for being empathetic towards separatists and terrorist organisations.
These came after Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena has accorded sanction to prosecute Roy and a former professor in Kashmir under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for making provocative speeches at an event in 2010.
Roy and Hussain had allegedly made provocative speeches at a conference organised under the banner of ‘Azadi- The Only Way’ on October 21, 2010 at LTG Auditorium, Copernicus Marg in the national capital.
A Raj Niwas official said, ‘The issues discussed and spoken about at the conference propagated the separation of Kashmir from India’.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla expressed his concerns about the Congress party’s reaction to the recent legal actions against Arundhati Roy.
Roy is accused of advocating separatist sentiments during the 2010 event. Poonawalla questioned the apparent unease within the Congress party and its ecosystem regarding the ongoing judicial process.
He asked, ‘Just now I got to know that LG sir has given sanction to prosecute Arundhati Roy, someone who speaks the language of separatism. But why are Congress and its ecosystem restless with the ongoing judicial process? Why are they shedding tears of grief’ ?
