Several people are feared drowned after a boat capsized in the Ganga River in Bihar. Local authorities confirmed that 17 individuals were on board at the time of the mishap. Barh Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Shubham Kumar reported that the incident occurred around 9:15 am near Umanath Ganga Ghat when the boat, carrying mostly family members, overturned midway and sank.
“While 11 people have been rescued so far, with some managing to swim to safety and reach the riverbank, six are still missing,” Kumar informed reporters.
Upon receiving the information, district administration officials and police personnel arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations with the assistance of locals to locate the missing passengers of the ill-fated boat, said the SDO.
“We are also engaging personnel from the State Disaster Relief Force. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identities of the missing persons,” the SDO added.
