A collision involving the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district in West Bengal has led to the cancellation or diversion of at least 24 trains, according to Railway officials.
Northeast Frontier Railways Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De provided details of the incident, “The 13174 Down Agartala-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express, which departed Agartala on June 16, was rear-ended by a container-carrying goods train between Rangapani and Chatterhat stations, about 10 km from New Jalpaiguri station, at approximately 08:55 hours.”
The collision resulted in the derailment of four coaches from the Kanchenjunga Express and five wagons from the goods train, blocking both up and down lines and causing casualties and injuries. The unaffected portion of the Kanchenjunga Express continued its journey after the incident.
