A bipartisan delegation from the United States, led by Republican Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul, has arrived in Dharamshala, Bharat. Their visit aims to affirm American support for Tibet and discuss the recently passed ‘Resolve Tibet Act’. The delegation includes prominent figures such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other US representatives.
The delegation was warmly welcomed at Kangra airport by officials of the Central Tibetan Administration. Their primary agenda includes a significant meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who resides in Dharamshala.
McCaul expressed enthusiasm about the meeting, highlighting the importance of the ‘Resolve Tibet Act’ passed by the US Congress.
“We are very excited to see His Holiness tomorrow to talk about many things including the bill we passed out of Congress which basically says that the United States stands with the people of Tibet,” McCaul stated, confirming President Joe Biden’s intention to sign the bill into law.
Pelosi, also part of the delegation, echoed McCaul’s sentiments, emphasizing their purpose to support the ‘Resolve Tibet Act’ and to engage with the Dalai Lama during their visit.
The ‘Resolve Tibet Act’, passed by the US Congress, urges Beijing to reopen discussions with Tibetan leaders for a peaceful resolution regarding Tibet’s governance under China. It rejects China’s historical claims and calls for an end to disinformation campaigns about Tibet and its people.
The legislation marks a clear stance by the United States in support of Tibet’s autonomy and the Dalai Lama’s role as a spiritual leader. It also underscores diplomatic tensions between the US and China over human rights and territorial disputes.

The visit by the US delegation to Dharamshala signifies a concerted effort by the United States to strengthen ties with Tibetans and advocate for their rights on the global stage. It reflects America’s solidarity with Tibet amidst geopolitical challenges and reinforces support for peaceful dialogue between Tibetan leaders and China.
