The Tripura Government will reappoint 67 retired police officers on contract to manage proposed immigration centres at Agartala Airport and Integrated Checkposts (ICPs) at Nischintapur and Sabroom, as announced by Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday.
This decision addresses a shortage of CISF personnel at MBB Airport, where international flight services between Agartala and Chittagong are set to begin.
Nischintapur in the West district, the entry point for the rail link between Agartala and Bangladesh’s Akhaura, and Sabroom ICP in the South district also require security personnel for their immigration centres.
“The council of ministers approved the proposal to reappoint 67 retired police officers to man the proposed immigration centres,” Chowdhury stated.
He added that the cabinet’s decision will be communicated to the Ministry of Home Affairs to officially designate the immigration centre at MBB Airport. Following this, international flight services will commence, and the retired officers will be deployed on a contractual basis.
The government has allocated Rs 15 crore as a gap fund to SpiceJet for the Agartala-Chittagong flight service, with Rs 3.76 crore already disbursed. This fund helps cover the gap between operational costs and expected revenue.
Additionally, the cabinet approved creating and filling 469 posts in the health & family welfare and food & civil supplies departments. This includes 226 medical officer positions, 16 super-specialist medical officers, and 172 specialist medical officers to enhance state health services.
