Yemen’s Houthi militants, backed by Iran, have escalated their attacks on merchant shipping in the Red Sea, heightening maritime insecurity concerns among international shipping and insurance sectors. The industry leaders immediately demanded action to safeguard maritime trade and protect seafarers, after two vessels were attacked and sunk by the Houthis. Claiming their support for the Palestinians in Gaza, the Houthis have escalated their attacks with automated surface vessels, missiles, and drones. Resulting in more than 70 attacks, Houthis have also seized one vessel and its crew and killed at least three seafarers.
