In a decisive move amid the ongoing paper leak controversy, the Centre has dismissed Subodh Kumar Singh from his role as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). He has been replaced by Pradeep Singh Kharola, a seasoned IAS officer from the 1985 batch, who will take over as Director General on an additional charge. Kharola is currently serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation.
The government’s action comes as part of a series of steps to address the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam and the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam. Facing widespread protests and political backlash, the Centre is intensifying efforts to ensure the integrity of national examinations.
Just a day prior, the government had notified an ‘Anti-paper leak’ law and established a seven-member expert panel tasked with ensuring transparent and fair conduct of examinations.
Pradeep Singh Kharola’s appointment aims to restore confidence in the examination process. Known for his administrative acumen, Kharola’s leadership is expected to bring stringent measures to prevent further leaks and irregularities.
