Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, aged 96, was hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Wednesday due to age-related health issues. He is currently under the care of a doctor from the geriatric department. According to his family members, his health is stable.
Earlier this year, the senior leader was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. Advani is one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and played a crucial role in shaping its political agenda.
He was the mastermind behind the Rath Yatra and the Babri Masjid movement in the 1990s, which ultimately led to the establishment of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in 2024. Advani also served as India’s Deputy Prime Minister, making significant contributions to the nation’s politics.
Despite his pivotal role in the Ram Mandir movement, Advani did not attend the historic opening of the temple on January 22, 2024, in Ayodhya. His absence was due to his old age and the extremely cold weather. Nevertheless, his contributions to the Ram Mandir and nation-building have been widely recognized.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness on February 3 by tweeting, “I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honor.”
Modi further praised Advani, calling him “one of the most respected statesmen of our times,” and highlighted his monumental contributions to India’s development. He also acknowledged Advani’s exemplary Parliamentary interventions and his service as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Information and Broadcasting Minister.
